FiDUS Marathon Power
On 28th April, Tom Hitchcock – Sales Account Manager at FiDUS Power – completed the London Marathon and raised over £3500 for Leukaemia Care, in memory of his father.
This was the first time Tom had taken part in the iconic marathon, having previously completed a half marathon.
After many months of intense training and preparation, running 4-5 times a week whilst also juggling a busy work life, home life and two young daughters, on the morning of Sunday 28th April 2019 Tom took to the streets of London! Alongside a record breaking 42,906 marathon runners for the annual event, he took on this mammoth challenge and completed the 26.2 mile course in 4 hours and 23 minutes.
Tom said: “My Dad, Piers Hitchcock, lost his battle with leukaemia just a day after his 39th birthday. Now that I have children of my own and I am getting ever closer to the age my father was when he passed away, I am more often reminded of this loss and how precious life really is. I'd like to channel this into something positive, something that would make my Dad proud, and hopefully make my girls proud too.”
Tom wanted to run the London Marathon for Leukaemia Care to help other sufferers and their families. Every 20 minutes in the UK, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Tom said “The incredible support I have had from friends and family - as well as all those who donated to my fundraising page – has played a huge part in giving me the mental strength to run the last 12 miles through the pain. That, and also my wife and eldest daughter waiting to see me across the finish line from the grandstand. Seeing them just before finishing was very emotional.”
Tom smashed his £2350 target, raising just over £3500. If you would like to help his fundraising reach even higher heights, please head to his online donation page: https://2019-london-marathon.everydayhero.com/uk/hitch-runs-a-marathon-for-leukaemia-care.
